256 Dufferin & King
Library
This project proposed an alternative plan for the King & Dufferin area, which aims to bring vitality and gather community. The design of the project focuses on repurposing the area and providing interactive space to the area.
date. April 2021
city. Toronto
location. 256 Dufferin St.
Approach
My approach to this project is to create a center of gathering/community, not necessarily a one like the Huacheng Square, it is less crowded, closer in space and connect with the neighbourhood. Even though the area of Liberty Village is part of Little Tibet, very less elements could be identified as related to Tibetan culture. However, by analyzing the common architecture façade in the area, it could be identified as a very industrial-style district with various factories within the area. I think these elements could be incorporated to develop a center of the community that is consanguineous with this area.
Site Analysis
As shown in the image, the site is surrounded by small businesses, clinics, and residential areas. The only public social/gathering space is the park and the Dufferin Liberty Centre down Dufferin street. There is a lack of attraction or attractive domain/program for residents and visitors to socialize in public.
